What is Parallel Data Warehouse (PDW) and where does it fit?

During this session we’ll get an understanding of what PDW is from a software & hardware perspective. We’ll review the kinds of business problems that PDW is best suited to resolve and we’ll discuss what IT Directors and Managers need to take into consideration when deciding on adding PDW to their data warehouse eco-system from a process and people perspective.
Mike Lampa is director for business intelligence and analytic solutions offer development at Dell. Since joining Dell in 2008, Mike has been an integral part of the leadership team responsible for evolving the architecture and business governance maturity of Dell’s Enterprise Business Intelligence program. Mike also serves as global practice lead for Dell Services’ business intelligence practice. In this role, Mike’s responsibilities include the establishing the service catalog; creating business intelligence practice reference architectures, training programs and delivery methods; creating and delivering enablement programs for field sales, service delivery, and partners; defining target markets; creating industry association alliances; and developing partnerships with selected data warehousing and business intelligence software providers.
Prior to joining Dell in 2008, Mike owned and operated a data warehouse consulting practice providing end-to-end business intelligence and data warehousing strategic program planning, architecture consultation, and solution delivery to Fortune 1000 companies and Federal Agencies including the Department of Defense, high-tech manufacturing, media advertising, retail, telecommunications, and banking and financial services.
Mike has more than 30 years practitioner’s experience, the last 16 of which have been focused on data warehousing, business intelligence and advanced analytics. He is a sought after business leader, educator, and speaker. He is an instructor and actively involved with The Data Warehousing Institute (TDWI) at the national and regional level, chairs BI tool user groups, has been a featured expert in TechTarget.com, and has been published in DM Review and The Journal of Data Warehousing.
